Purpose of the Training: (1) To educate Alameda County foster families, relative care providers, foster family agencies, group homes and others about recent state policy changes that require youth in foster care to be screened for a physical or mental disability (2) To educate practitioners about to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) on behalf of the youth they serve.

About the SSI Transitions Project: The SSI Transitions Project is two-year partnership between the John Burton Foundation and the Public Interest Law Project. The primary goals of the Project are to help California’s disabled youth make a successful transition from foster care by ensuring they have SSI upon their discharge from foster care, improve local practices in transition planning for disabled foster youth and develop a comprehensive state and federal policy agenda to address systemic issues.
